Fleur de friche (dédicace à N***!) Wasteland Flower

[For the English version, please scroll to the end, after the images]

My friend N*** wrote me a letter this week (not an email, a handwritten letter). She recently was elected in a big city in the Alsace a member of the opposition in the Town Council. She tells me: « I’m quite proud of my speech, this week during the City Council, about the interest of vegetalized wastelands to forster biodiversity in urban settings ». (And I say: She’s right and bright!) Just leaving plants to strive all around on the sidewalks is less effective (and aesthetically questionable) than shaping a network of vegetalized grounds and wastelands that sprawl within the city spaces. My answer and praise to N*** are these drawings I once did in Berlin after collecting common plants in a wasteland (near the former wall) at Hauptbahnhof Berlin in the wake of the Botanica /Diffracted Light series. Since 2012 this wasteland has been developed into the Ministry of Research of the German Federal Republic… [For the French version, please scroll back up!]
